SKATING
More than 300 skaters from across the UK are set to take part in the country's
biggest ever domestic synchronized skating event in Sheffield next week.
iceSheffield is hosting the 2007 British RJS (Relative Judging System) Synchronized
Championships on Monday.
A total of 22 teams will take part. Skaters will compete in five different categories
including Senior, Junior, Novice, Juvenile and Adult. Teams will perform a free
synchronized programme, which must include certain skating elements, to music
of their choice.
Peter Morrissey, Ice Development Manager, said: "Synchronized skating is
the fastest growing discipline of ice skating in the world and it is hugely
exciting from a spectator point of view. The group performances are really good
fun and generate tremendous excitement. With more than 300 skaters competing
at the venue, plus all the supporters and spectators, we are expecting there
to be an electric atmosphere."
Entry is £3 for adults and £1.50 for children and concessions. Information:
